ICT Killzones — Best Times to Trade Gold and Forex

• What to do: Mark the Asian session high and low — these become targets for London to sweep

London Open Killzone

• UTC: 2:00 AM – 5:00 AM
• PST: 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM
• Purpose: London institutions enter the market, often sweeping Asian session highs or lows before making the real move
• Best for: Reversal setups after liquidity sweep

New York AM Killzone

• UTC: 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM
• PST: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM (or 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM in some references)
• Purpose: US market opens, major data releases happen here, strongest moves of the day
• Best for: Trend continuation and high-impact news reaction setups

New York Lunch (Avoid)

• UTC: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM
• PST: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
• Purpose: Institutional lunch break — low volume, choppy, unpredictable price action
• What to do: Do not trade this window. Sit on your hands.

New York PM Killzone

• UTC: 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM
• PST: 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM
• Purpose: Second wave of institutional activity, often retraces or continues the AM move
• Best for: Continuation setups after NY lunch consolidation

How Killzones Work in Practice

Here is the typical ICT daily narrative for gold:

Asian session (1 AM – 5 AM PST): Gold consolidates in a 30-80 pip range. Smart money is building liquidity above the range high and below the range low. Mark both levels.

London open (7 AM – 10 AM PST): One side of the Asian range gets swept. If the high gets swept first, expect a drop. If the low gets swept, expect a rally. This sweep often happens within the first hour of London open.

NY AM (12 PM – 3 PM PST or 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM PST): The real directional move happens. If London swept the low and bounced, NY continues that bullish move. This is where the majority of the day's range gets printed.

NY Lunch: Price chops sideways. Ignore it.

NY PM: Either continuation or consolidation before close.

Killzone Trading Strategy — Step by Step

Step 1 — Mark the Asian range At the start of London session, identify the high and low of the Asian session. These are your key liquidity levels.

Step 2 — Wait for the sweep Do not enter during the Asian session. Wait for London to sweep one side of the range. A sweep means price briefly breaks above the high (or below the low) and then reverses back inside the range.

Step 3 — Look for displacement After the sweep, wait for a strong impulsive move (displacement) in the opposite direction. This is the smart money entering their positions.

• US economic data (CPI, NFP, Fed decisions) all fall within the NY AM killzone — making it the highest-impact window for gold
• Gold's Asian range is typically 50-100 pips — London often sweeps 20-30 pips beyond this range before reversing
